The Portuguese discovered Madeira on the 15th century. Right in the middle of the Atlantic, the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo are a haven of natural beauty.
It was in the Porto and in the North regions that Portugal was founded in the 12th century and the Portuguese became a people and a nation.
